DIY floating shelves with charging stand

Hey yall! How was the weekend?? We had a great time doing not much:) It was too hot for me to start pulling out the fall decorations…booooo…. I am so itchin for a crisp morning. We did look at a few open houses on Sunday. Yes, you heard that right….open houses. We are just seeing what might be out there….starting to miss our yard a little—especially with 2 pups running around. Most likely we will stay put…but we are open to possibilities;)

I shared with you last week or so the redo on my son’s room. I mentioned to my dad what I was planning and he was eager for a project, so he actually built these cool floating shelves for me. I love how they came together! These are a great beginner woodworking project too! My dad used the Kreg system along with some glue. These floating shelves make great use of space—I think they work great in a bedroom but would also work great next to a couch in a tighter family room.

First thing we did was decide on a size….I thought that the top of the table should by 12 by 11 deep. My dad used the router to cut a 1/2 inch groove close to the sides (left and right hand) along with a 1/2 inch hole so that the phone could charge while it stands up. Bubs uses his phone for an alarm…so this feature was key. Total cost was $28 bucks! (not including stain…because I used what I had on hand) I decided to stain them a dark walnut—wiping the stain on lightly and wiping it off quickly. I didn’t want a lot of color….just a rough stain look. I used two coats of poly on the top.
