I hosted my annual “ugly dress’” girls night last night. It was full of belly laughs, bad fashion shows, good spirits, horrid dancing and just plain old fun. It got me thinking as I was “preparing” my house for my friends to come over and enjoy. We put so much time, effort, blood, sweat and tears into our home…and we are usually the first ones to be judgmental of it at the same time. “Oh I wish I had this done…or I wish I had time to finish that project….or gosh the trim looks awful”…and so on and so on. But what is funny about all of  that is no one else cares…no one else will ever remember all of those things. What they will remember is the laughing….the silliness…the good jokes…the yummy food…and most of all…they will remember how they felt when they were in your home.

ugly dress party @cleverlyinspired

20 years from now….I can guarantee that my friends and I will sit around and talk about the “ugly dress” parties…and we will be laughing…like really laughing….the kind of laughter that when you think about it the next day…you just bust out laughing again. I also guarantee that 20 years from now…we will not be discussing how beat up my trim work looked or how that wall needed another coat of paint…or how small that kitchen was…or any or those things that rattle around in my head every now and then.

Remember the laughing…and think of my home when you are giggling your head off….that is the greatest hostess gift of all.

All the other stuff….is just stuff…;) Go and be silly….you deserve it;)

Happy Halloween…be safe out there!

  1. Love it! Where do you find those dresses?

    1. Isn’t it great! We all get them from different sources…many goodwill…some are family dresses (like mom’s or grandmas) some are found on ebay! :)
