Oh how I love garage sale season! All those projects just waiting to be tackled! I found this little gem at an estate sale last fall. It has been sitting patiently waiting for me to figure out what in the world I would use it for. It just reminds me of a time…

When people actually got dressed to travel on an airplane.

It was a privilege….and people were so respectful of that.

I think next time I fly I will wear a hat…why not right?!?! Let’s start that trend ok :)

So onto my little case redo…

I thought about painting it…but then the blue grew on me…

The inside was nasty…but just makeup stains. I cleaned it up good.

I decided to cover the insides with fabric. I started by making a pattern from paper to see how to cut the fabric.

I did this for the top, bottom and sides.

How fun would the polka dots be?!?! Love it with the blue!

I cut the fabric out for the top and bottom and hot glued into place…

Then I glued the side in place…

I came back and did another bottom piece to hide the seams.

She is ready for Memorial day and I right?!?!  We are taking it to the lake where it will fit in perfectly! I think I am going to use it to store video games in the kids loft space. How chic right?!?!

  1. I love that vintage makeup case. Oh!, I too, can see the possiblities. What lovely carry case to bring on an airplane. We are going on vacation, can I borrow it? :)
You are so creative! Love your blog.

  2. That came out great. I remember as a kid getting dressed up to go on an airplane. Times have changed and I'm not that old.

  3. Oh, how I remember the day…flying back and forth to college with my train case and hat box ~ always wearing a dress or suit and heels to travel! I love your ideas for the case, Tracie. My daughter acquired one a few years back, in a light cream color. She stands it open on her dresser, with all her perfume bottles on display. Have fun with it!

I love the new lining. It really dresses the suitcase without taking away from it. Well done!

    Tracie-

Is that a Starline? It looks like it.

I found a blue-gray one at a sale back in June for $2.

    Love the polka-dots…so fun!

    Hope you are well…

  11. Thank you for posting this! I have an old suitcase that I had decoupaged years ago, but I didn't know what to do with the nasty fabric inside. Since I don't sew, I think that hot glue would be perfect to use. Does it matter what type of fabric is used to line the inside?
