It was my New Year’s resolution….to start the year off with a clean oven. I realize it sounds a bit silly and mundane. But I cook/bake a lot and every time I open that oven I am embarrassed for myself. I recently had some friends over for a small Holiday party….and they were helping me in the kitchen—“please don’t judge me by the inside of my oven…” it was really bad. I have put it off because I can’t stand the smell. I have tried everything….finally I found something that is all natural and doesn’t smell one bit! I had to pass it on to you all….
I also used a lemon, cut in half and pour some salt on it….then I did a tequila shot…I joke, I joke—put a few drops of dawn on the lemon…
Trying to get all the grease off the door was a challenge….
Here is what it looks like now…not too bad! I promise to clean it more often so it doesn’t build up that bad again! Happy clean oven!
I am all over this recipe..Thanks so much..I was just looking at my oven this morning..Weird..Love your blog..
just in time! so glad you shared. i will so be doing this very soon!
You should have had a tequila shot! it would have been way more fun.
Isn't it funny how we sometimes neglect things like ovens and microwaves?
thanks for the tip! that's a good money saving recipe!
I like to buy extra wide aluminum foil and put a piece under the element. It saves cleaning the bottom of the oven. My microwave on the other hand is looking tequila shot worthy.
I will def be trying this!! The results are astonishing.
Found this on Pinterest and used your formula today-it works really well! Thanks!
We have an older home with older appliances…and since we are moving later this year we are NOT replacing any of them.
Of course, the oven is NOT self cleaning :( But this stuff did the trick!
The tequila definitely helps ;)

I need to try this.. my oven is so dirty the fire-alarm went of yesterday….
Gabi: I´ve heard about people watering out fabric softener and letting it stand over night… next day just clean it as normal and make sure all the fabric softener is gone beafore cooking. (never tried it myself thoough)
[…] 6. Natural Oven Cleaner […]
Thats great, but you should turn the power to the oven off. Lifting the bottom elemnet to far up while the power is on, can result in the grounding of the terminals in the rear of the oven causing a need for repair or possibly even a shock or fire, clean awy but be safe please. My husband owns an appliance repair company and has seen this first hand.
[…] easy it is, I will definitely clean them at least twice a year! A HUGE thank you to Life 123 and Cleverly Inspired for these great cleaning […]
