Hope you had a great weekend friends. We had a great time celebrating the Derby with friends and got a few things done around the house. Nice and low key:)
Do you have that song in your head now? “Oh these are the people in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, in your NEIGHBHHHHBOOOOORRRRHOOD….oh these are the people in your neighborhood; The people that you meet each day…” (in your best vintage Sesame Street voice…) I digress, today on CleverMoving Monday….I am going to talk a bit about our new neighborhood…Norton Commons.
It is a unique concept and very original to our city. This type of community has several names, “Live, Eat, Work, Play…., “Urban Village” , “Mixed use community”…it all basically means the same thing—pedestrian friendly living.
Everything you need is available in your neighborhood…and you don’t need to get in a car to go places. Shops with living quarters above, large green spaces, pools and parks, restaurants and eateries all within your community. There are multi million dollar homes, condos, mid priced and everything in between. The architecture is southern, traditional, art and crafts style, Georgian and colonial. Large front porches with beautiful columns full of charm….along with simple windows and clean designs.
It isn’t really a new concept. Norton Commons is not recreating the wheel. The community that the developers have put together is based on a very traditional structure of community. A place where you can sit on your porch and see your neighbors. There is a huge range of ages too, you will have retirees living next door to a young family. It creates a true community—where you are around people of all ages. We have loved living directly across the street from Norton Commons. Enjoying the many restaurants and festivals throughout the year. We have also loved our neighborhood now….it is where our friends are…which is why moving to Norton Commons is the best of both worlds—new home, and not far from our friends. Win win :)
Norton Commons is Louisville’s first Traditional Neighborhood Development (“TND”). Planned TNDs are the cornerstone of the new urbanism movement, which promotes the creation and restoration of diverse, walkable, and vibrant mixed-use communities assembled in an integrated fashion, resulting in a complete community. Norton Commons sits on almost 600 acres in northeast Jefferson County, Kentucky and is currently home to over 650 residences, 50 businesses, 2 schools, and dozens of parks, pools and green spaces.
