Let’s just say we know our limits. Taking out a wall…no matter how small…is not something we were comfortable doing. We have a fabulous handy man. He has finished 2 basements for us…and built us a deck on our last house. He is trustworthy and timely and just an all around great guy. If you are local to Louisville I can give you his number. He was able to take out the wall where our pantry was in half a day…and he finished the drywall like new again! I took a few pictures in case you wanted to tackle this yourself….
The pantry was emptied and the cabinet above the fridge was taken off to allow some space to work and also to be able to finish the drywall properly.
Ready for paint! We gained about 6 inches of space too! Love that!!!
Here is what the pantry area looks like today…..I was going to wait and do one big kitchen reveal…but I think it is fun to share the whole process with you guys. Plus..I had a few people asking me “what’s up with the kitchen girl” ….So here we are today.

We made this countertop for about $10…a post on that coming up next week. We wanted a butcherblock feel….it turned out better than we could have hoped for! It is constructed from 2 by 12 white pine boards. I will have the whole tutorial up next week for you. I am in love with this counter!
My honey added a sweet little wine bottle storage spot….love this!! I will be getting the entire piece primed and ready for paint….
I found a perfect sized mirror for the “backspash at Kirklands…$10! I thought it would be nice to have some reflection under the wall shelves….It will just hang on the wall.
The teacup lamp was my Grammies and it has been in Emily’s room since she was a baby. She said I could have it for my kitchen now ;) Just need to find it a better shade….the one that Emily had was pink and green. On the hunt for a new one :)
Time to go grocery shopping!

Way to think out side the box! I LOVE that you tore out the small closet for additional counter space and I think your wood counter top turned out very nice. I recently priced one out for a client and they start out at $95.00 a square foot from a source we use. Cute wine cubbies as well.. I got my little walk in Pantry from stealing a little space from an adjacent unused small bedroom.

How has the counter held up so far? Are there any scratches or noticeable wear so far? I’m thinking about doing this in our kitchen next year. We have cheap Ikea cabinets and the counter tops are starting to chip and flake.
