Thank you to who?Comics for sponsoring this post and encouraging my child to read biographies in comic book form! Please click here to learn more about the app. And follow who? Comics on Twitter for updates!

This past Sunday was cool and rainy….a perfect day to curl up by a warm fire and read. It was a great time to review this new app for my Ipad called Who? Comics. I was very excited to be given the opportunity. Anything that will make reading fun for my kids…sign me up!!

I think it is hard for many kids to find enjoyment in reading. There are so many other things pulling them in all different directions. That is one reason I am so impressed with this app. It pulls them in and grabs their attention…and before you know it 30 minutes have passed and they are still reading…and popping up to tell you some interesting fact that they just learned. It is interesting…and they are learning without even trying to ;)

I downloaded the app and my daughter was up first. She loved the selection…and wanted to read the biographies of Bill Gates and Coco Channel. There are some really fun people to select from…Hillary Clinton, Walt Disney, Steven Speilberg, J.K. Rowlings….I was impressed with how many people my kids were already familiar with.
Emily read Coco Channel. And Conner read Bill Gates. The pictures and story lines are very easy to follow and are filled with tons of interesting tid-bits about that person. I was reading right along with them and I learned so much!

The app is geared for children who are 8 and up….although kids all read at different levels at different ages. In my opinion, an 8 year old would find this reading challenging and some of the wording may be above that age. You can download a preview to see if it fits your child’s reading level and skill.
Conner enjoyed learning about Bill Gates. He said the pictures really added to the story. He read the first chapter out loud to me…and continued reading it later that day. The comics are longer then I expected they would be….but I think it is set up in such a way that really encourages the reader to want to learn more….and keep reading.
