Easy Handmade Valentine with free printable

Thanks for all your excitement about our possible adventure…. (see Wednesdays post). All we know at this hour is that we are still “in contention”…fingers crossed:) Till then….here is a sweet craft to do this weekend:)

Even though my kiddos are 15 now I still like to come up with a corny little Valentine to give them. We used to spend hours by the table making handmade Valentines when they were little and for some reason I love all the little corny sayings. There’s so many to choose from. But I thought I would give you 5 really easy fun ideas in case you’re looking for a craft to do this weekend. You can knock these out and have Valentines all finished and ready to go.

The one that I made I basically just wrapped a pack of gum. It’s really nothing new…it’s all over Pinterest I’m sure. I created the printable that you can print out and cut out and all you have to do is tape it on a pack of gum and you’re finished. Some of the others that I picked to show you don’t call for any kind of candy which is also nice. It’s fun to give a little treat or something special that doesn’t cost a lot of money. And like always you can search up Pinterest homemade valentines and you will have a huge array of ideas. All you’re going to need for my valentine is some paper or cardstock some scotch tape and scissors. The size of the printable is about 3 x 5.5 so it should wrap around most packs of gum.

Click on HERE to download the printable (I put 3 on one sheet of paper:) (obviously for personal use only….don’t go selling these and telling people you made the printable mkay:)

10 ways to help your teen reduce stress

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Wrigley Jr. Company for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

This post has been in my draft file for a while now. My kids recently experienced their first round of exams in high school just this past month. I was urging them to find some strategies that help them to deal with stress when it comes to school work. In our house we implore the importance of balance. That includes school work too. A grade is not a measure of success in our house even though our kids do really well in school. There are many things that are far more important than a grade on a test. And we think that when you balance out all the things that really matter….the responsibility to themselves and their school work naturally fall into place. I’m not saying that we don’t keep tabs on it because we do….but it is just one measurement that we use in our house and it is by far not the most important measurement. cv     Exams, quizzes, test and school projects are part of growing up so you just have to find a way to deal with the stress. Giving kids strategies and ideas to help them decrease the stress can be helpful. This post fit right in when my friends at Juicy Fruit asked me to let you know about their new sugar free gum that tastes like Starburst (which by the way…they have in both Cherry and Strawberry!!)…..I mean that makes you feel more relaxed already…am I right?!? Save Now at Target! 20150109_104051 Here is a free printable for you to tag on your kids bulletin board. A gentle reminder to take it easy….and when they feel themselves getting stressed…to take a moment…. stressfree   Chewing gum…like JuicyFruit Starburst flavor can in fact help to reduce stress. Starburst_juicy_fruit 20150106_132748 Here is one study from the Science Daily…

The results showed that participants who chewed gum had quicker reaction times and more accurate results than the participants who didn’t chew gum. This was especially the case towards the end of the task.

Kate explained: “Interestingly participants who didn’t chew gum performed slightly better at the beginning of the task but were overtaken by the end. This suggests that chewing gum helps us focus on tasks that require continuous monitoring over a longer amount of time.” source

I hope you find these helpful….and hopefully the next time your kiddos get stressed or feel overwhelmed they will refer to this list. Which flavor are you going to try? Cherry or Strawberry??

DIY leather napkin holder with free thanksgiving printable

So my peanut is going to her first high school dance tonight:) She is very excited! She is going with a very nice boy….we are friends with his family–which gives some comfort to the whole situation. I’m sure I will share a pic on instagram if you want to pop over there later.

Here is an easy little napkin holder to make for your Thanksgiving table this year:) I hope you have a great weekend!!…..

Thanksgiving is probably one of the only times of year that people actually spend more than 2 seconds worrying about what their napkins look like. My friends at the LeatherHideStore.com sent me some gorgeous tortoiseshell leather and I thought it would make really pretty napkin ties.

It doesn’t take a lot of leather to make these but they do add a lot of interest to the table paired with some inexpensive jute roping a nicely pressed white napkin and some favorite silver. I’m sure you aren’t using your white dinner napkins right now…so if you are hosting the big shin-dig this year…you might as well get a head start and make these up this weekend. They will be one less thing to worry about:)

I love the mix of textures….makes it look really warm on the plate. I encourage you to stop by Leather Hide Store.com to see the huge selection of all sorts of beautiful leathers. You can order any quantity that you need. There are so many fun projects that you can incorporate leather with…like all of these on pinterest.

What you will need is 12 inches of leather, some jute roping, double sided tape,  this free printable that you can download and a white dinner napkin.

First for the super easy napkin fold….

lay pressed napkin on a flat surface and fold one corner up almost completely to opposite corner

roll in both side until they meet in the center

Flip over

Fold the rolled edges over

Flip napkin back over and place on the plate.

100 Questions Printable: Dinner Table Talk

It’s Friday! I hope if you are in the deeper South that your week is ending a lot better than it began. What a mess for y’all! Bless your hearts….(in my thickest “Steel Magnolia” voice….) Seriously though, winter can go away now. I am done having fun taking snow pics…ready to be outside again! Here is a great activity to get started with this weekend…it will get the whole family involved…and laughing too…the best:)

Sometimes….well actually all the time…your kids fail to see you as anything other than a middle aged mom who works, cooks, cleans and nags about homework. They don’t realize that you were a silly 3rd grader who liked to play red rover (because that is how you found out who liked who…) or a shy 7th grader who sobbed about going into a new school because she knew NO ONE….or a fun loving college girl who figured out southern gentleman actually do exist and they will make you weak in the knees…They don’t realize all of this because they weren’t there to experience that with you. This little activity will help them see a new side of you…and you will learn something more about your kids..win win.

100 questions printable dinner table talk @cleverlyinspired (1)

I recently reprinted these questions for our family meal time. We did them all about 7 years ago or so…I held onto the word document so that we could revisit these questions. As the kids get older it is fun to see how their answers change.

I thought you may like to print these out for your family meal time. There are two sets of questions. 100 questions for parents to ask the kids….and 100 questions for kids to ask the parents. At dinner time, parents chose one question and kids chose one. Some are really thought provoking and others are just silly.

Print each list onto different paper…in our jar white paper is parents questions for kids…and colored paper is the kids questions to the parents.

Placing the paper strips in a pretty glass jar on the table….you will never forget about it:)

Here are the downloads: Just print out and cut into strips….There isn’t a particular order you have to go in…even though they are numbered….

I hope you learn something new about your kiddos….

and tell them about that one time in 8th grade when you made your friends laugh so hard they peed their pants….I bet your kids will laugh too:)

Have a great weekend friends :)
