I found this post over at The Shabby Chic Cottagefor this recipe….I thought it would be fun to try with the kiddos for the Halloween Party tonight.

It was really simple…you will need

  • One vanilla cake mix
  • Wilton black food color
  • 2 cans vanilla icing (not whipped)
  • Cooking spray
  • Parchment paper
Mix the cake mix per directions…add in 2 toothpicks of the black food coloring turning the batter a lovely grey!
Spray a glass bowl with cooking spray. Place parchment in bowl and spray the parchment. Pour in batter
Bake at 325—until cake tester comes clean (about 45 minutes)
When cake is cooled–place on platter and trim the edges to resemble a brain. Slice cake through the center.
Mix half of a can of frosting with red food color. Place in the center of the carved out cake.
Top the cake with the other half.
Fill a large ziploc with all the other frosting. Mix in 2 toothpicks of black color.
Knead bag until mixed and place in fridge for about 20 minutes.
Snip a small end off a corner and decorate sides and top of cake in swirls of brain!!
Great cake for Halloween!!!
Be inspired to be clever!!
